Bandbroderi - Ribbon embroidery

Senast fick ni bland annat se att jag höll på med lite bandbroderi. Nu har jag gjort färdigt några fler motiv och tänkte att vi kunde titta lite närmare.

Last time you could see that I was doing some ribbon embroidery. Now I have finished some more motifs and thought we could take a closer look.

Bandbroderi är ett riktigt gammalt hantverk. På 1600-talet var det tydligen väldigt populärt. Själv hade jag inte lagt märke till det förrän förra sommaren och blev stormförtjust. Här i Sverige är det inte så vanligt, men jag tror att det kan vara vanligare i tex USA.

Ribbon embroidery is a really old craft. It was apparently very popular in the 17th century. I hadn't noticed it until last summer and was very excited. It isn't that common here in Sweden, but I think many are doing it in the USA for example.

 

 Mitt första försök kan ni se här, ivrig som alltid så tog jag det band jag hade till hands - från min pyjamas! Jag använder både azlonband som jag köpt för just broderier, och andra band jag har hemma. Bland annat sådana som klädtillverkare syr fast i kläderna för att de inte ska glida av galgarna. Det man bör tänka på är att använda band som är glest vävda, annars blir det för svårt att dra nålen och bandet igenom både tyg och band.

You can see my first attempt  here, carried away as always I took what ribbons I had at hand - from my pajamas! I use both azlon ribbons that I bought for embroidery, and other ribbons I have at home. For instance those ribbons that are sewn into the clothes to keep them from slipping from the cloth hanger. What you should think about is to use ribbons that are loosely woven, or you will have a hard time pulling the needle and ribbon through both fabric and ribbons.

De flesta olika stygn som jag använt här är helt vanliga broderistygn, men effekten blir större med band eftersom motivet blir 3-dimensionellt. Most stitches I've used are common embroidery stitches, but the effect is greater with ribbons since the motif becomes 3-dimensionel. Try clicking on the pictures to watch them closer. Jag tycker om att variera mig i både teknik och motiv, men ändå så har jag nog en viss stil som går att känna igen. Här försökte jag komma utanför min lilla låda genom att tänka på en kompis med helt annan stil än mig, och göra något som hon skulle gilla. Ni får avgöra om jag lyckades göra något annorlunda än jag brukar. Det blev åtminstone inte rosa!

I like to get some variation in both technique and motif, but I guess I still have a certain style that can be recognized. Here I tried to get outside of my little box by thinking about a friend with a totally different style from mine, and do something that she would like. I'll let you judge if I managed to do something different. At least it didn't turn out pink!
